With many incredible artists scheduled to perform, Sacrum Profanum 2022 is bound to be a true feast for the soul. Ready to experience music like never before? Find out more about the uniqueness that this festival is.
Sacrum Profanum is an annual festival organized by Kraków Festival Office, the Krakow Philharmonic and the Polskie Wydawnictwo Muzyczne. Having started in 2003, the festival is a celebration of contemporary music from the 20th and 21st centuries. Its premise is constantly changing, though, and the magic of the festival is that it always brings something new to the table. From sacral music to jazz and electronica – the Sacrum Profanum Festival is a beautiful symphony of all sounds and genres. The list of artists who performed at its scenes include many famous and well-recognized musicians from all over the world and many different backgrounds.
The simplest way to describe the Sacrum Profanum Festival is… Expect the unexpected. Sounds cliche? Not in this case. Every edition of the festival is a wild journey through the sound. With a wide range of previous performers – such as the Kronos Quartet, Tomasz Stańko, Will Gregory or Sinfonietta Cracovia – Sacrum Profanum has proven to be as open and manifold as music itself. Even this year’s slogan, which is: ‘Endangered species’, points to something one wouldn’t necessarily associate with music. The festival is so much more than mere display of music, and whatever you think Sacrum Profanum 2022 will be, you may rest assured it certainly will be far from boring.
Based on the festival’s depiction, you may think that it’s something reserved for professional musicians or people with broad knowledge of music. It’s worth noting, however, that the Sacrum Profanum Festival can be fun regardless of your background and interests. More than anything, it is a celebration of diversity, openness and sheer joy that music can bring. It can be enjoyed by everyone who is willing to look beyond limitations and appreciate artists from different environments. Though its name – or description – may sound intimidating, the Sacrum Profanum Festival does not exclude anyone. It’a great opportunity to do something new after having explored the town on one of our organized tours!
